|Joseph Lander Lee||Born:|
|Father: Unspecified||Mother: Unspecified|
|Children: Margaret Lee , Glenola Lee|
|Spouse: Florence Marsh Lee|
Birth place: Scotland
According to the family tree data I got from Grandma Liz, Joseph Lander Lee was born in Scotland. And his entry in the 1900 U.S. Census corroborates this; it says he was born in Scotland. However, in the 1930 U.S. Census, his daughter, Margaret Lee, stated “England” as the birth place of her father. I think it was simply more acceptable to say one was from England than from Scotland at the time. You see, they had not seen Mel Gibson in Braveheart, yet.
Information About Joseph Lander Lee take from the 1900 U.S. Census
On June 9, 1900, he lived in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania with his wife, Florence, and 2 baby girls. Joseph was 23 years old. Joseph and Florence Lee had been married 3 years. I have the date of their marriage as March 16, 1897. However, I cannot recall where I got that bit of information. I will check my sources and will post updates here.
Joseph L. Lee’s mother and father were born in England. Joseph Lander Lee immigrated to the United States in 1883, when he was 7 years old. His wife, Florence, also immigrated in 1883. Perhaps they came together (although, he, from Scotland, and she, from England). As of this census in 1900, he had been in the U.S. 17 years.
