This is the first Franklin J. McClaskey, also known as Franklin J. McClaskey, Sr., or senior.
Information about Franklin J. McClaskey, Sr. taken from the 1900 U.S. Census:
Franklin J. McClaskey was 25 years old. Franklin J. McClaskey was born in Ohio. The birthplace of his father is unlisted in this census. His mother was born in Ohio.
As of this Census on June 5, 1900, he lived with his wife, Katie Annie, and their 3 children. Katie Annie was 24 years old. As of this census, they lived on Spring Street, in Millvale Borough, Ward 2, in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Franklin J. McClaskey and Katie Annie had been married 4 years; so they married about 1896.
Information about Franklin J. McClaskey taken from the 1910 U.S. Census:
Franklin J. McClaskey was 36 years old. The birthplace of his father is listed here as Pennsylvania, but this is most likely a mistake. Franklin’s father, Isaac McClaskey, was not living with him at this time. Later on, both in the 1920 and 1930 censuses, Isaac McClaskey lists his birthplace as New York.
As of this Census on April 28, 1910, Franklin lived with his wife, Katie Annie, and children. At this time, they had 5 living children, although 6 had been born. Apparently, our beloved Katie Annie had lost a child. As of this census, they still lived in Millvale Borough, in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Franklin J. McClaskey and Katie had now been married 14 years.
Information about Franklin J. McClaskey, Senior, taken from his World War I Draft Registration Card, 1918:
This WW1 Draft Registration Card is dated September of 1918. (Ancestry.com dates this card as 1917-1918, but I narrowed it down to 1918 because Franklin had turned age 43 on November of 1917, and so he would still be 43 on September of 1918. This card lists his age as 43.)
Franklin was tall in height and stout in build. I can tell this because of the ‘x’ marks in the “Tall” and “Stout” columns on the right-hand side of this card. He had blue eyes and brown hair. I believe the left-hand side of this card lists his occupation as “Real Estate Agent.”
Information about Franklin J. McClaskey taken from the 1920 U.S. Census:
Franklin J. McClaskey was 45 years old. The birthplace of his father, Isaac, is now correctly listed as New York.
As of this Census on January 10, 1920, Franklin McClaskey still lived with his wife, Katie Annie, and their 5 children. But now Franklin was the head of a larger household. His household now included a daughter-in-law, Lillian, who was probably married to Franklin’s son, William F. McClaskey. William and Lillian had a 2-month-old newborn baby named W.F. McClaskey, who also lived in Franklin’s household. Franklin’s parents, Isaac O. and Laura McClaskey also lived with him. Finally, Franklin’s sister Maude also lived with him.
The economy in 1920 was supposedly “okay” but, the fact that Franklin’s household included 12 people says otherwise.
At this point, they had moved to Westview Borough, still in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
His wife died just 3 years later, in 1923. He outlived her by 20 years.
